Calea in Bacolod - What's the Fuss All About???

I honestly don't know what the fuss is all about. My hubby and I have tasted better cakes than Calea's, well, at least compared to those that we've tried --- this dense 2-layered chocolate  cake, the Devil's Food Cake and the other one is the coffee-flavored cake or Cappuccino Cake.

Maybe we ordered the wrong kinds of cake, I dunno. We had the rich (supposedly) chocolate cake as a benchmark for all the other cakes.

Cafe Bob's in Bacolod

We only had a few days of vacation when we visited Bacolod a few months ago. We will be back there again next month to attend Jayvee Fernandez's wedding. Anyhoo, I'd like to share here the top food places in Bacolod that people keep saying we must try... so try we did with our limited budget and all.

Going through these photos of Bacolod food places makes me want to go back there again right now so we can order more dishes. Hihihi.

Here's the first Bacolod food stop: Cafe Bob's, located in Lacson St. corner 21st St., Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, Philippines. You may contact them at (+63 34) 434-2409

Grilled Edam Cheese and Honey Sandwich

I've been eating a ton of green vegetables lately that I wanted to taste something different, even if maybe they're not really healthy for me. Cheese, especially Cheddar and Cream Cheese are a no-no for people who have acid reflux disease or GERD. But I wanted cheese! So the next best thing is to have cheese with low fat and skim milk and that's Edam cheese. Here's how I did it:

Conti's - MakanMakan - Harbor View (My Birthday Nomnoms)

It crossed my mind to eat whatever I want to eat on my birthday last weekend. I was definitely missing all tomato-based dishes, I wanted chocolate and mocha cakes, I wanted to drink coffee, I wanted ice cream, I'm always craving for oily foods. But after weighing the pros and cons of my condition (pros: satisfying my cravings and feeling good for a little while, cons: acid reflux, heartburn and generally feeling awful afterward), I managed to stay disciplined and just ate the right kinds of food. I was thankful that I was able to get dishes that are healthy for me on these three restaurants we dined in last weekend:

The Beluga Caviar Experience

February is such a month of celebration for some people, us included. Chinese New Year has just ended and people are gearing towards Valentine’s. When that's over, then there are still the birthday parties, prom nights, dinner parties, office parties and pre-summer celebrations. As for me, my birthday is coming up and I still have yet to plan how to celebrate it.

If you are in the midst of throwing a fabulous party and you’re thinking of getting fabulous dishes to go with it, why not try beluga caviar? Beluga caviar is one of the most expensive types of caviar in the world simply because the Beluga is one of our endangered species. It has a nice texture, quite delicate and smooth, and they say the flavor is very rich. I think I would have to taste one if I were to properly describe it. Although in the past, my husband and I have tasted caviar and it was exquisite. How much more if it’s the beluga caviar?

Hotdog Potato Spinach Medley

There are days when I couldn't help myself and I eat the kinds of food that are a no-no for people with GERD like me (like chocolates, coffee, alcohol, anything with tomato, garlic and onions even in small amounts), thinking that I can get away with it. Well, sometimes, I can but when I do it for two or three consecutive meals, I end up not feeling so good afterwards. Tsk, tsk.

On this particular day, I was running out of groceries and food I can eat. Actually I've been running out of groceries  for a week now (been doing 18-hour shifts at work coz I need the moolah to fund my summer escapades beginning next month... will be visiting Bacolod and Cebu again; will be living in Siargao for two weeks and learn how to surf in Cloud 9 as promised; have plans of diving in Anilao and surfing in Baler, plus of course my addiction to windsurfing. So you see, I really need a lot of funds. Hehehe.). Anyhoo, our fridge don't have much in it at the moment except for a few hotdogs, potatoes, a bottle of mustard, and some spinach. Good thing that my hubby, Peter, has a talent for concocting wonderful homemade dishes out of scrap. So this is what he did to come up with his yummy Hotdog Potato Spinach Medley :

Cheap Filipino Food @ Caliraya Sunrise Viewing Lake and Eatery

Every time we'd visit Caliraya for a an afternoon of windsurfing, we'd always drop by Stop Over Kitchenette for lunch. This particular weekend though, we wanted to try a different venue.. somewhere nearer Surf Kamp for a change of scenery and ambiance. Luckily, we noticed this place called Caliraya Sunrise Viewing Lake and Eatery. We usually pass by this area but this was the first time we really noticed it.

Uncle Cheffy Panizza

It was my first time to try Uncle Cheffy when my hubby, sis and I visited Nuvali in Laguna the other Saturday. We were there in the afternoon and were looking for a nice place for snacks. I was in the mood for pizza so after going around (there were lots of restaurants to choose from), we opted to dine at Uncle Cheffy.  Their super thin pizzas  caught my attention which are sliced into strips. We can then roll them with greens and other vegetables and that's when we have a rolled pizza. This reminded me of Focaccia's Pazzo Rollio in Fort Bonifacio.
